Das ist "Hölle" im King Tut Alphabet, das von den drei Carstairs-Kindern Dinah, April und Archie verwendet wird, die das Gefühl haben, dass das Leben viel besser sein wird, wenn ihre überarbeitete, verwitwete mysteriöse Mutter nur einen Mord lösen und die dringend benötigte Werbung für ihre Bücher bekommen kann. Und wenn sie dabei zufällig einen Ehemann landet... nun, das ist nur Soße.
Wenn also Schüsse in der Nachbarschaft klingeln, erfinden die Kinder eine Geschichte, um die Polizisten von der Bahn zu werfen und gleichzeitig den Hauptverdächtigen in Archies Spielhaus zu verstecken. Dinah versorgt das Gehirn, während April ihre Charms verwendet, um Informationen aus einem Polizisten zu werfen. Archie – das einzige Mitglied der Familie, das Geld sparen kann – finanziert die Operation und überredet seine Bande "the Mob", um eine Ablenkung zu schaffen, damit Dinah und April den Tatort überprüfen können. In der Zwischenzeit ist Marian Carstairs in ihrem Zimmer und klopft auf ihre Schreibmaschine, ohne zu wissen, dass ihre Kinder eine Falle für einen Mörder stellen und eine andere Art von Falle für einen schönen, einzelnen Mordermittler stellen.
Home Sweet Homicide wurde erstmals im Jahr 1944 veröffentlicht und ist einer der ehrwürdigsten Mystery-Romane der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts und erschien auf der Haycraft-Queen Cornerstone-Liste, James Sandoe's Readers' Guide to Crime und Melvyn Barnes' Murder in Print. Es wurde 1946 mit Peggy Ann Garner, Randolph Scott, Dean Stockwell und James Gleason gedreht.
