Howard Warshaw died at age 56 in August of 1977. He was an extraordinarily articulate and lucid man who had the character and gift to live as he pleased and regret none of it. His work is in the permanent collections of numerous institutions, among them the Carnegie Institute, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Hirshorn in Washington D.C., the Fogg Museum at Harvard, the Los Angeles and Santa Barbara Museums of Art and the University of Southern California collection. His paintings have been exhibited in the Corcoran Gallery, the Guggenheim and Whitney museums, the De Young, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Los Angeles County Museum and the Museums of Modern Art in Paris and Sao Paulo. The Smithsonian, in its Archives of American Art, has a complete record of his works, publications and awards as well as microfilm of paintings, drawings and notebooks.
