It takes the reader from the The Scooter's boyhood and youth in Brooklyn, his minor league days beginning in 1937, coming to to the major leagues in 1941. World War II interrupted his career, as it did with many others, as he did not play in 1943, 44 or 45. He was the Yankee shortstop through all the glory years afterward, He played in 8 World Series and was a 5-tile All Star and was American League MVP in 1950. After his playing days were over, Rizzuto joined the Yankee broadcasting team in 1957 and would remain a fixture for the next 4 decades. Phil Rizzuto was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1994.
