The novel LEFTOVERS tells the story a young woman's life after she leaves the political left. The story has its beginnings during the McCarthy era of American history. A newly married couple disappear from their home and become 'unavailable' when they go underground. The young wife, an idealistic occupational therapist, together with her new husband, hide a radical fugitive and start their family with false identities. This suspenseful story deals with the problems encountered after returning home. They must face the leftovers of their environment; family reconcilliation, birth certificates, tax problems, poverty and feelings as they start all over again. Gradually, the wife's idealism leads her into another arena, one dotted with spirited people whose disabilities enhance their struggle for independence. The frontiers are different but her courageous spirit shows throughout the changes in her life.
