The twenty-four essays in Martin Cohen's first collection provide an excellent introduction to Judaism for anyone interested in gaining new and better insight into the Jewish way of life and spiritual quest. They explore the major Jewish celebrations and observances, the traditions and spiritual principles underlying the cyclic rituals, the implications of personal prayer and faith, and the joys as well as the difficulties of Jewish life in contemporary Christian society. Insightful interpretations of Biblical passages, personages, and events round out the collection, intended for the enlightenment and edification of "open-minded Jews, curious Gentiles, and the rabbinically underserved of all faiths".
Martin Samuel Cohen has been on the faculty of the Jewish Theological Seminary and Hunter College in New York, the Institute for Jewish Studies at the University of Heidelberg in Germany, and the Vancouver School of Theology. Most recently, he has lectured on Judaism and Christianity at the University of British Columbia.
