This supplement to the award-winning 1985 two-volume publication of the same name provides references to 3300 titles published since 1985 in the fields of British and American literature. Some 1900 references are annotated and rated according to academic level. These new titles reflect the growing prominence of feminist criticism and deconstructionist methodology. In comparison, Gale's Dictionary of Literary Biography ( DLB ) series (1978-) provides substantial bibliographies and critical/biographical essays on a wider variety of writers than does this work. The unique features of the Research Guide are the critical evaluations of the cited material and the theme index, which assists students in determining topics associated with particular writers. For libraries already owning the earlier volumes of the series, this volume should be an automatic addition.
