Aultbea (Ross-shire). Bank fishing for wild brown trout on Aultbea Hill Lochs. Permits from Bridgend Stores, Aultbea, Achnasheen, Ross-shire IV22 2JA (01445 731204); Aultbea Lodges, Drumchork, Aultbea; Post Office, Laide. Bridgend Stores, as well as issuing permits, has a comprehensive range of tackle. Hotels: Aultbea; Drumchork Lodge; Sand (01445 731385).

Poolewe (Ross-shire). Salmon, sea trout, brown trout. The National Trust for Scotland, Inverewe Estate, Visitors' Centre (01445 781299), offers trout fishing on several lochs: Kernsary, Tournaig, Na Dailthean and A'bhaid, Luachraigh, either by part ownership, or on behalf of owners. LOCH MAREE (Ross & Cromarty). Spring salmon fishing from April until June. Sea trout from June until Oct. Also brown trout fishing.

Talladale (Ross-shire). Salmon, sea trout, brown trout. Loch Maree Hotel has fishing. Heavy demand for sea-trout season so early booking advised. Hotel owned by anglers' syndicate which provides excellent facilities. Boat fishing only. Apply to Loch Maree Hotel, Talladale, By Achnasheen, Wester Ross IV22 2HL. Gairloch Angling Club has brown trout fishing in many hill lochs, including Bad na Scalaig, Tolliadh, Garbhaig. Pike in Lochs Bad an Scalaig, Dubh and Fuar, salmon fishing in R Kerry, (book at Creag Mor Hotel). Membership closed but permits #2-#12 from K Gunn, Strath Square, Gairloch.
