The author having worked for an American manufacturing business that decided to adopt Japanese manufacturing principles, based upon the Toyota Production System (TPS), gained a unique insight into the different American and Japanese approaches to manufacturing. In fact the business also applied the American Six Sigma principles at the same time as applying TPS. But it needs to be appreciated that the Japanese culture has its own limitations against the American culture that more readily accepts radical changes. It is Japanese evolutionary change verse American revolutionary change. In fact those that choose to combine the two approaches are going to be the most successful businesses of the future.
