For the next six months, he found himself on an emotional roller-coaster as he looked after her, and learnt to look after himself at the same time. Huw Watkins is the nom-de-plume of an academic who has written widely on special education and educational psychology. He's also published short stories and a crime novel. Since writing 'At a Stroke' he's returned to his hill-walking interests, particularly in Scotland and North Wales, though these expeditions have to be fitted in between crab-fishing visits from his many grandchildren.
