Críticas:
Tartu is a small dog with a big personality. This engaging beast is sent to Egypt by her owners to sort out Uncle Howard an archaeologist with a theory he wants to prove. So they set off together and eventually find the secret burial chamber of an ancient Pharaoh, an Egyptian king. Of course there is a lot of treasure, but there is also a dark secret which means that there are baddies who want to get Uncle Howard and Tartu out of the way. Really Tartu is a person-with-fur. JAC West has given her lots of human characteristics - a practice known as anthropomorphism. She is, for example, a well-educated dog who has read history books. And she can use language, at least inside her own head. But she is still a te4rriere with teeth and claws who needs food in her bowl. She picks up scents like a dog, too. On her journey from the pyramids of Cairo to the catacombs of Alexandria, Tartu meets some extraordinary animals, all of whom can talk to each other if not to human beings. They include the Muslim camel Ata Allah who says things like, May Allah rest her soul, Dolly the Donkey, Rhakotisa, the mad parrot Alexandria, Alfred the army chimp (who is a bit too find of home-made dynamite) and the elderly, dare-devil bulldog Colonel Corpus Crunch. All this could get a bit silly were it not for the light, witty way the story is told. And the style of writing is attractive... Now it was Tartu s turn to keep an eye on him (Uncle Howard) and pull him out of the way of speeding motorbikes, bad-tempered camels. Then she d sit next to him during the warm starlit nights whilst he pored over his dusty books, growing sleepy as the single electric light bulb burned into the dawn. No prizes for guessing who saves Uncle Howard in the end and who saves Uncle Howard in the end and who is the real heroine of this story. The unusual black and white scraper-board illustrations by Oliver Lake fit very well. Readers of Tartu and the Pharaoh Curse are sure to learn a lot about ancient Egypt and its kings and tombs just as a bonus. --Newsademic, 22 December 2006

Tartu the dog is sent to Egypt as company for Uncle Howard, who is working on an archaeological dig. When a hoard of treasure is uncovered, Uncle Howard goes missing and Tartu sets out on an adventure to find him and unveil the mystery. The story has a nice pace, and builds up tension quickly as the mystery kicks in. This is a fun and fast adventure, full of fascinating facts about Egypt. --Sarah Merrett, The School Librarian, Spring 2007
