From Chapter 14(the game is in triple overtime, St. Ignatius' first overtime game ever): It was now or never for the Wildcats as they put the ball in play at the 20 yard line with St. Eds ahead 34-28. Scott Mutryn's first down pass was incomplete. On second down he again dropped back to pass. Forced to scramble to his right, Scott picked up five yards down the sideline, cut back toward the middle of the field, eluded a couple of tacklers and ran in for the touchdown! Hold on, there is a flag on the play. Keith Laschinger was flagged for clipping at the four yard line. The ball is moved out to the 19 yard line. On second and nine Mutryn found Matt Schindler for a nine yard completion at the 10, giving the Wildcats a first and goal.

The Eagle defense came roaring back on the next play and sacked Mutryn for a five yard loss. Disdaining the run, Scott again dropped back to pass from the 15. Forced to scramble, he ran to his right. Spotting Keith Laschinger in the left front corner of the end zone, Scott threw a high pass back across the field towards him. Keith and St. Ed's defensive back T.J. Shalek both leaped for the ball.

The initial fan reaction was cheering from the St. Ed's side, as the Eagles' fans thought that Shalek had intercepted the pass. However, while they were still in midair, Laschinger wrestled the ball away from Shalek. When he landed, Keith trotted triumphantly across the end zone toward the St. Ignatius bench, ball in hand, score tied at 34-34! It was now the St. Ignatius fans turn to roar!

As he had done all year, and for the fifth time in the game, Nick Paez went out and put the extra point through the uprights - giving the St. Ignatius Wildcats a 35-34 win in the most amazing game that they have ever played!

...One national publication would later call this game the high school game of the year. Many would later call it the best high school game ever played in Cleveland. To those of us who were there, it will almost certainly go down as the greatest game in St. Ignatius football history.
