From The Preface: "I have written this book to help women get out of abusive relationships. You may have just met him or have been with him or married for years. I am also writing with particular attention to the “warning signs” or “red flags” in abusive relationships-- words and situations and actions and behaviors that should be indicators that the relationship is becoming abusive or is going to become abusive. I am writing to help women get out of abusive relationships as early as possible and stay out of them forever.I spent twenty-one years in an abusive marriage, two additional years with him before I married him, and two years living with him after we were legally divorced. I write from a wealth of experience and hindsight and research and reflection. I have struggled with every aspect of the entanglement of abuse, but even though it took me a long time I really did do it and I really am finally free. This is the future I want any women to have who is in an abusive relationship, and I want her to have it sooner that I had it. I am writing so that you can see the warning signs when the relationship in just starting out, so you can get away before it entangles you. I am also writing to those ensnared and give directions and hope for getting out.It is my earnest hope and expectation that many women in abuse will find the information, tools and encouragement needed to get out early and stay free forever." -Theresa Werba
