In their attempt to "protect" their son, Gloria and Erik concoct a story about Erik's tragic death in a fiery automobile accident while Rusty was still a baby. Years later, Rusty finds out that while he is indeed part of a broken family, the circumstances are much different than he was led to believe. He finds his father, but not many answers. All along, Rusty deals with his own problems, and his fear of getting help leads him into more than one potentially tragic situation. Because of Erik's homosexuality and a condemning social atmosphere, Rusty was denied the chance to know his father for most of his childhood. Two Paths To Now sheds new light on the true effects of the "family values" movement, and calls for a re-evaluation of its definition. At a time when sexual orientation issues are at the forefront of debate, along comes a book which examines not only this issue, but the effects it can have on a family because of the fear and stigma attached to it.
