Inhaltsangabe

Within Heart's Reach is a unique book written to help separated loved ones who want to maintain a strong, meaningful relationship to remain within heart's reach even if they can't often be together. Whether it's a few hundred miles, a few thousand or half way around the world, today's mobile society often results in ongoing separation throughout the life cycle.

This book is for all types of adult, child relationships long distance grandparents, a parent separated from a child because of a military tour of duty or divorce; an aunt or uncle living in a different city than their niece or nephew; a close family friend or a child's godparent separated from their special child. The most prevalent separation is that of grandparent and grandchild. To make separation all the more unbearable, most grandparents have an intense need to have a special "closeness" with their grandchildren. When distance prevents frequent visits, grandparents and grandchildren alike, need to find creative ways to enhance their relationship.

All of the ideas in this book come from real people. Ideas that have worked for them throughout their lives. References to "grandparents" and "grandchildren" have been used throughout the book for continuity. Because this book is for adults to use to stay in touch with the children they love as well as for children to keep in touch with adults, chapters and references include activities for both. Practical ideas and many activities that can be done throughout the year are provided. Activities represent variety in cost, time required for completion, age-levels and abilities. Some activities require advance planning and are ongoing throughout the year. Others require little planning and are completed easily.

Chapters provide suggestions for various holidays, birthdays, vacations, school events, and so much more. There is even a chapter entitled My Favorite Memory Makers so that a personal touch can be added, especially if sending the book to a loved one.
