Inhaltsangabe

Original Loss is based on the human premise that grief is a natural and necessary emotion following loss. To mourn is a must for our emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. When the grieving process is interrupted or disallowed by our caretakers, the damage extends far beyond the original loss. Addictions, criminal activity, multiple harmful relationships, and long-term depression may be the result.

This book is written with real stories from real people. It is a book for everyone, not just for the severely damaged among us. Original Loss offers hope to anyone willing to see his or her losses and begin the process of grieving.

Anytime we minimize the experience of another person, whether a child or another adult, we are cheating that person out of their right to feel and express their emotions and to heal from the trauma. When an adult minimizes a child's loss, the child's sense of self is diminished. (This can also be painfully true when an adult minimizes another adult's trauma.) Making light of a child's experience of sadness or anger or any other feeling is a way of saying, "What you are feeling is not as important as what I feel," and "Only adults have reliable, worthwhile feelings."
