A volley of gunfire brought instant silence to the Alamo Saloon. The crowd parted, and a figure strode up, pushing winded and staggering cowboys out of his way. He was a long-legged six-foot-three, dressed in plaid pants, a fancy vest, and an expensive shirt. He set his wide-brimmed hat at a rakish angle and wore a scarlet sash around his waist, tied casually at his side. From this sash he had pulled two ivory-handled revolvers and fired them into the Alamo's floorboards.

"The next bullet goes into any son-of-a-bitch dumb enough to throw another punch," he bellowed.

"He started it," an adolescent cow hand said, pointing to Red. Hickok's aim immediately locked onto the big man.

Red had experienced having a gun pointed at him before, but this was different - more chilling, somehow. Wild Bill's pistols weren't simply pointed at him. They were aimed at him; at his guts. This man was a professional killer. Wild Bill immediately noticed the pistol Red was wearing.

"I'm afraid you're going to have to give me that hogleg, sport." Red could smell the booze on Wild Bill's breath from fifteen feet away. If you think you should draw on Wild Bill, go to 40. If not, go to 13.
