He has tried to express those insights in his poems. His formal education includes the Ohio State University and the University of California at Los Angeles. She has family ties to Monterey County, California, where she and her husband, Jeff who is also an artist, maintain a studio. She formally started painting when she was 13 years old under the direction of a traditional teacher from Taiwan. Her professional experience earned her a Masters Degree equivalency from the State of California in 1987. She taught at the Monterey Peninsula College from 1987 to 1992. "When I can I prefer to paint from nature. Painting is an emotional process and working out in the elements makes it more so." Her work is shown in galleries in Vail and Durango, Colorado, in Truchas, New Mexico, and in Carmel, California.

Here are several poems from Surviving the Storm.
The Love Poem
He started to write
a love poem
on the petals
of a daisy
Not knowing
if she loved him
or loved him not,
he dared
to expose his soul
like the yellow
gold center of the flower
on which he wrote.
Before black ink
stained the last white petal,
she touched his neck
and whispered "I love you."
Well Worn
Most of my things
do not acquire a patina
even though I like
faded jeans,
well worn leather,
and the muted green
of weathered copper.
Maybe I wash my hands
too often
and touch the world around me
too little.
I remember outgrowing
a cowboy outfit as a child.
It was as clean as new
when we gave it away.
Time is making me
less afraid
of scars and stains,
more appreciative
of the hard and soft
people and things
around me,
more willing
to risk everything
to be well worn
and pleasantly used
before I outgrow
this life.
