Inhaltsangabe

A dANGERous Choice?...is a two-part book on anger control. The first part is a guide for adults - parents, teachers, mentors, social workers, psychologists, and psychiatrists. The second part is an illustrated, fictional story presented to kids, kindergarten through middle school, so they can learn the six basic steps of anger control through the eyes of two boys who, themselves, are in the process of dealing with anger problems.

The adult portion presents examples of each anger control step and a variety of questions, activities, and techniques from which adults may choose, so they can individualize the anger control process for each child. Background information on anger and dealing with an angry child, and recommended sources to use with all age and ability levels, K-12, are also included. This is a user-friendly book that any adult can pick up and use with a minimum amount of preparation.

The Kid's Story is designed so that any interested child can read the story and be able to use the six steps of anger control on his own,if necessary. Repetition is built into the story for this very reason.

In an extensive review of materials available on anger control, I found nothing like this on the market. I wrote this book, because as a teacher I was frustrated that my students at a county juvenile detention center/jail school were getting younger every year; and materials in this field, especially for the young, were scarce.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Sue Kelly-Kohlman, who earned a B.A. from Marian College of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, and an M.A. from the University of Wisconsin, has been teaching regular education and special education for over twenty-five years. She has had most of her experience in teaching students with special needs, specializing in working with the emotionally disturbed.

While living in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Sue has taught children in a variety of settings: the Brown County Mental Health Center, Bellin Psychiatric Hospital, Preble High School, and currently at the Brown County Jail. Her clients at the jail range in age from ten through twenty-one. Students with a variety of special educational needs comprise half of the population, the rest being from the regular education ranks.

A priority at the jail school is to teach anger control and errors in thinking, in hopes that the students will learn from their mistakes and not return to a correctional setting. Sue wrote A dANGERous Choice?... about anger control to try to help younger children make better choices about anger. She is currently writing a second book dealing with errors in thinking for the same audience. It is Sue's firm belief that such concepts taught at an early age will help youngsters make better, healthier decisions for themselves, so that in the future the world will be a safer place for everyone.
