Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Bonnie Marks Hall's open and non-traditional approach to spirituality was able to be born because of a lack of early-life religious structure. Bonnie developed a natural freedom to accept or reject religious teachings by what felt right in her soul, unrestricted by childhood conditioning or forced religious dogma. Within the structure of her working life (law, law enforcement and education) and her own personal traumatic experiences: childhood sexual assault by her father, rape as a young adult, her son's life-threatening birth and Attention Deficit and Hyperactive Disorder, her own chronic illness, her husband's infidelity, and, finally, her daughter's emergence into adulthood which catapulted her towards coming to terms with the experiences of her own childhood, she has witnessed the climatic highs and degrading lows of the society in which our humanity exists, and from here her search for understanding, meaning and purpose was defined. As her search grew, her questions became more global and her need to understand much broader than her immediate self.

For most of her adult life, Bonnie has had natural clairvoyant gifts. Her need to search drew her towards understanding these gifts. While she began to read Tarot cards in the late sixties, today she teaches others. She no longer needs to use the Tarot, having developed her intuitive abilities to effectively read energy. As one client wrote to her, "Your reading was damn near right on with everything. You have a rare gift!" She is also a Reiki master and has taken workshops in shamanic development and counselling. Her search even further propelled her to going on a spirit quest to Central America, where she journeyed to the magnificent, ancient Mayan ruins of Tikal in Guatemala and discovered her spiritual lineage.

As a teenager, Bonnie began to write poetry. As her understanding of her life grew, she felt a need to share her views with the world and so wrote a novel, Spirit, a story about a quest for understanding the spiritual self and familial relations. Impulsively, Bonnie was again compelled to write of her insightful and thought-provoking philosophies, which had matured since her writing of Spirit a dozen years before. Bonnie felt what was needed were illustrated stories that could show how those philosophies could be applied to daily life. Somehow those stories became her own life experiences and In Search Of . . . was born. Whereas she started her book with her past traumas, somewhere along the way it became in the moment. As new chapters within her life unfolded, she wrote of her passionate and emotional reactions with total honesty and candor and these writings became a reflection for her own understanding and healing. Whereas In Search Of . . . began for the reader and as a vehicle for expression of her philosophies, it also ended up being for herself, becoming a catharsis of her responses to her tragedies and an enlightened recognition of her ecstasies.

Aus dem Klappentext

Quotes from the text:

"I just knew I didn't feel complete or whole. I knew there had to be more to life than just life, there had to be."

"Who am I? Please, please tell me! No longer can I pretend to be what the many years have created. The self-reliant, nurturing, compliant, intellectual, denying, daughter, wife, mother, woman-child. Where is my Spirit while I suffocate in this humanity?"

"So, how do we let go? If it was easy, perhaps we wouldn't have a need to be here. If we hadn't dug this dark chasm and encased our Self in it, submerged in its bowel, removed from the loving light that surrounds it but that still nourishes it, we wouldn't know how it is to climb out."

"Sexuality is then an expression of how we see our Self, while love is the truth of how we know our Self. In order to understand our sexuality, we must know our truth, and in order to find our truth, we must accept the love without our self."

"I could feel his sweetened breath on my clammy skin; hear his ragged intake of air as he fought his raging demons and lost."

"It is imperative that we learn to trust our instinct. We can be anything we want."

Inspiration for Wings of Light, the cover painting by Bonnie Marks Hall, came from the artist's spirit journeys to each of the four directions of the Medicine Wheel. In the East, the eagle was a messenger that signified freedom, vision and the artist's ability to carry her learning out of context. In her journey to the West, the eagle was a reminder that wisdom lived within her heart centre and was her truth. The eagle's absence in the South represented trust, for the times she couldn't see, but continued to believe, finding Self and love. While in the North, the eagle united the artist and her power, using wings of light to embrace and protect.
