Inhaltsangabe

"This is a moving, lyrical and, above all, wise book. The subject is life; more accurately, deeply personal feelings about life in progress. The poetic style is quite marvelous, a mix of emotional colour and clear analytical critique of self, leavened by a wry and subtle sense of humour."

"...The young lawyer examines life's mysteries, the pain of love lost and family pressures of being single in the '90s. Often personal, and at times passionate and emotional, her thoughts reach us at the spot that we shield the most - the heart. Reflective, philosophical and altruistic. Her musings are comfort to the confused in our increasingly antagonistic modern world."

"An exploration and celebration of life. For all, Ms. Chopra provides a gift of clarity, reflected in 'Beyond the Mirror'."

Aus dem Klappentext

Foreword Anne Bhanu Chopra has written a poetic, intelligent guide to help her generation both understand the forces at play and navigate the perils of modern relationships. Through her honesty and her willingness to reveal the tossed emotions of her personal life, she becomes a friend, confidante and soul-sister to others searching for ways to continue to respect cultural traditions, parents and family and still finds fulfillment in todays open society. As a woman, she is aware of the biological rhythms of her life that generate the longing to be a lover, a mother and protector. As an intellectual, she is able to analyze the emotional needs to be a companion and matriarch of a family unit. She is also not willing to accept a society where everyone seems to be making up their own rules as they go along. As a lawyer, she is able to rationalize and face head-on the conflicts that arise within her family as she chooses to accept some tenets of her cultural background while rejecting others completely. But most of all, as a poet, she is able to wrap each feeling, emotion, situation and event, with her own particular depth of human kindness. As a result, she continues to enjoy an honored place in her family and in her cultural community. Annes journey to seek new ground as many of the underpinnings of her life are washed away, has taken her farther than many of us would want or care to go. Fortunately for us, she has written out each scenario as she questioned both the source and the application of each assumption that purports to lead to the best possible life. This is not about the hereafter. This is about how we see ourselves and others, and our relationships. Its about today, tomorrow and the rest of our lives. By sharing her search, her journey and her love of life, Anne Bhanu Chopra has added to our lives as well. Dr. Ginette Lemire Rodger

BEAUTY Physical Beauty, what a blessing, all say. In reality though, what a significant hurdle, I say. We are so well aware our Society promotes, and thrives on Physical Beauty. Jobs, relationships and school. Its proven Beauty assists. People seek and admire Beauty. Those whom Society deems Physically Beautiful are to feel blessed, fortunate, and without worries. I would suggest many of the people labeled as Physically Beautiful have concerns. They wonder whether they would be valued without their physical exterior. They wonder how people will react to them upon losing their coat. Many of the Physically Beautiful are yearning for the reassurance others would be drawn to them for the Beauty of their inner core. For they would rather possess that which matures like fine wine rather than Physical Beauty which dissipates with time. The Physically Beautiful know so well, they are not responsible for their exterior. It is something they neither created, nor control. They know their Physical Beauty shall eventually diminish and wither. I ask you, how distressing is that realization? So aware that another can appear with the same, or better covering the Physically Beautiful cannot help but feel substitutable. Never having been recognized by others for any other quality, but their Physical Beauty, they have become dependent on its presence. Physical Beauty indeed, breeds insecurity, and ignores the inner core. Compliments on their Physical Beauty have made them fragile while they wait with increasing anxiety for that elusive compliment they have an equally beautiful inner core. I understand that some, blessed with a beautiful inner core, may yearn for approval of their Physical Beauty. My friend, the truth is all of us will remain aching so long as we look to Society for acceptance of our being. Take time today to cherish yourself by validating the Self, your exterior and inner Beauty, both. LABELS A Physically Beautiful person once classified as such, is never free to be anything but Beautiful. They have to constantly and consistently .................READ BOOK........ classification. From afar the Physically Beautiful are viewed as intimidating and self-occupied. Their shyness or introversion is often viewed as aloofness. Many people do not even attempt to approach them due to this mistaken perception. The label of being Physically Beautiful bears its blessings along with its burdens. I believe if we examine other labels closely we shall quickly learn that they equally carry their blessings and burdens. There is no blessing without burden So let us not sit around in grief and be in awe of anothers label. DANCE OF CONFIDENCE Her body has not been embraced, for so long no slight indication that she is human no touch, no caress and no kiss. She remains a shell of beauty with no one to caress the child inside. Slowly she must mask the need for anyone else. If she shows any sign of her longing she knows so well that no one will desire her, so she wills herself into building a stronger exterior. She dances the dance of confidence so well. She knows her smiles are empty but her show of confidence must go on She has learned to survive in this world made for the confident and the happy. She knows too well that any display of her pain will not further her life in any way. People want the confident, the happy, the sought-after, the beautiful. The masquerade of confidence must go on, and no one shall break her,.................READ BOOK..... Many want her, many desire her, to fill their needs but few approach, as all believe she is taken that she feels no need. Consider this, if she displayed her uncertainty and the vulnerability of her life it would not assist her in any way but to cause people not to believe in her. The same isolation would continue to exist, but unlike before Pity would walk in and take the place of the Awe she had become accustomed to. I tell you this charade is not mine it is one borrowed from many this charade is an epidemic. THE TRUE MIRROR I am searching for a mirror to see how I look today. I glanced in the mirror in my bedroom. I noticed how tired I looked. Shortly thereafter, I walked to work and met someone in the elevator who complimented me on how splendid I looked. I woke up the next morning, got dressed and, as I was walking in the shopping mall, I took a peek in a mirror and whispered to myself how beautiful I looked. Shortly thereafter, I walked into a meeting and met my colleague who quietly told me that I looked run-down. Did my mirror lie to me twice in the span of two days? I ask you, whom, or which, is the mirror I should rely on? Have you ever noticed how each Physical Mirror can make you look different than you looked in another? Some mirrors show my complexion as clear. Others show every blemish and wrinkle. Some mirrors show me as thin

and others show me as not these mirrors are so unforgiving determined to magnify every flaw. Of course, there is the Feedback Mirror, the one made up of everyones comments. ...........READ ON I refer to this as having taken a look in the Feedback Mirror. The Feedback Mirror which gives you the answer as to how you look to others based on their perceptions. My friend, each person you meet is your mirror. Since the choice is yours, choose the mirror that tells you that you are the fairest of them all. We all deserve that! .......................READ BOOK The best mirror is the one you own the one which makes you believe you look good when you are feeling good!
