Arthur Hart (1921-2020) returned to Idaho for good in 1969 in order to direct the Idaho State Historical Society. He directed the State Historical Society for 17 years before retiring in 1986. After retiring, Arthur continued to research Idaho history and provide history education throughout the state. Arthur has authored more than 20 books on Idaho and Western history as well as many articles. Arthur enjoys writing books about parts of Idaho history nobody else has written about before, as well as other things he findings interesting. Arthur was well known for his weekly âIdaho History' column which has appeared weekly in the Idaho Statesman for overt 44 years. The column brought history alive by providing readers with interesting historical facts and anecdotes about Idaho history. This history of the Boise Police Department could not have been produced, the author asserted, without the warm encouragement and cooperation of its members present and past. I am especially indebted to Chief Larry Paulson and these people on his fine staff: Lt. Jim Tibbs, Capt, Stan Wood, Teresa Morley, and Paricia Peterson. Former officers generously shared their photographs and memories. The author also interviewed former Mayors Jay Amyx and Dick Eardley. More than to any other, the author owes eternal thanks to his wife Nevella Dee who put his penciled prose into readable text. Author Arthur Hart describes the good, the bad, and the ugly,and also the humor that occasionally lighted the duty hours of generations of courageous and dedicated men and women whose job it was to Protect and to Serve.
