Making Money Matter is a unique book about philanthropy, written for donors by Enid Ablowitz who has been a fundraiser and donor advocate for more than a dozen years. Everyone gives away money, some more than others, and many without understanding ways to make giving more satisfying. This book explores the psychological, philosophical, legal and tax aspects of giving, including outright giving, deferred giving and estate planning. By acknowledging the dilemmas of personal financial security, the desire to provide family inheritances and the discomfort many feel about the giving process, the author provides an extraordinarily effective tool to encourage donors to self-educate.
It is a guide for those who want to explore their own feelings about giving, and it provides the practical information needed to make informed decisions. It is not written to be the last word for legal or technical advice. Instead, it provides necessary legal and tax information in a simplified form. It synthesizes complex issues, preparing the reader to take action. Stories about real donors provide insights and examples. The 3-part questionnaire allows for self reflection, family dialogue and gift planning that is consistent with a donor's values.
Both inspirational and instructional, this book is destined to become an invaluable tool for fundraisers, attorneys and financial planners to help their donors and clients learn about philanthropy.
Making Money Matter: Eight Steps to Thoughtful Giving is the perfect way to begin the inheritance and philanthropy dialogue and to explore philanthropic motivations and potential.
