Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

An acquaintance of Deborah Barry's once said to her, "Wow, you've had a pretty wild life. I hope you're writing it all down so you can look back on it when you're old and gray." Deb smiled and nodded.

Reading has always been a source of enjoyment for her. Articulate, passionate prose moves Deb as much as a beautiful musical composition. In college, she was a computer science major with a minor in English, but that didn't stop her from begging her way into a creative writing course designated for English majors only. One notable assignment for that class was a research paper, and after much pleading and cajoling on Deb's part, the professor finally agreed to let her write a short story instead.

Deb will never forget the glimmer in the professor's eye when she explained that she lives very much in the present, that she likes to grab hold of the intensity of emotion in the here and now, and that her best writing comes from the passion of today. She wrote about a woman whom she adored and who was the best thing to enter her young life. When the smiling professor handed back the graded paper, the only comment was "Is this woman real?"

Deb took it as a grand compliment.

When asked to identify her favorite thing about The Life in Her Eyes, Deb said, "It has heart. It speaks to all the emotions that we as human beings struggle with everyday." She believes that the human spirit is miraculous, and that we don't give ourselves enough credit for the strength, resilience, and brilliance that we display throughout our lives.

Deb is a risk-taking, adrenaline junkie, who has been quoted as saying, "The higher I can get off the ground, the happier I am!" She feels that reaching the old, gray stage of life is an iffy proposition at best. So, in a way, that's what this novel is for her - a tiny slice of immortality, a chronicle of some of her life experiences wrapped around two fictional characters. She's not sure how she'll feel when the bound manuscript is actually in her hands, perhaps a sense of full circle, of the closing of one chapter. That, and total bliss.
