The main theme of the book centers on acute concentration of economic power and wealth in the hands of a few economic powerhouses, which is basically due to the workings of Hong Kong's land system and the lack of competition in key sectors. In spite of this socially unjust phenomenon, not only has the SAR government played deaf and blind, its approach towards setting land and competition policies has made matters worse by the day. The book discusses how the land system, which is inherited from the British administration, has helped to foment the build-up of unrivalled wealth for that ruling class and how the lack of a competition law has encouraged industrial and economic concentration in the same entities. The land system, industrial concentration and phenomenal wealth imbalance have given rise to a host of social and economic ills. Finally, the book ends with some suggested solutions to heal Hong Kong of those ills.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor
In the earlier stage of the author's career, she worked for 8 years as a personal assistant to Kwok Tak Seng, the late Chairman and legendary founder of the Sun Hung Kai Properties Group, the largest developer in Hong Kong. In the 1990s, she joined Kerry Properties, the property arm of the Robert Kuok Group, where she held the position of planning and development manager for 9 years. In the latter job, she was responsible for land and property valuation and acquisition, and was also involved in rezoning application and lease modification procedures. Throughout her career, she has been contributing articles to the press and online media, reflecting her flair for writing that owes much to her early training in journalism at a London school. She now lives and works in the Province of British Columbia, Canada.
