Beth Nonte Russell was born in Jasper, Indiana. She received a B.A. in history from Indiana University and an M.A. in psychology from Marymount University. She worked as a member of Senator Richard G. Lugar's staff from 1985-1988, and as a counselor at a community mental health center from 1994-1999. She lives near Washington, DC, with her husband and two daughters.
