In Morada al sur the late Rose Shapiro translates the single volume of poetry written by Aurelio Arturo, who writes longingly and lovingly of his home in southwestern Colombia. Although Arturo is not well known outside of his own country and virtually unknown in the United States, some Latin American contemporary poets call him the most influential poet of their country in the last century. Exiled in the north of the country, and witness to the political and social violent change in his country, Arturo perpetuated in poetic words something he felt had been lost. He writes of his beloved home in the south as if to recreate it. For the first time, his elegant and lyrical poetry is introduced to English readers in hopes that it will evoke images of Arturo's south and recreate it for them, too.

Biograf�a del autor:

Rose Shapiro was an associate professor and director of rhetoric in the Department of Department of English and Communication at Fontbonne University in St. Louis. She earned her Master's and doctoral degrees in comparative literature at Washington University. Dr. Shapiro also taught Spanish language and literature at Elmira College in New York. In addition to Morada al sur, she published a translation of the poems of Carlos Germ�n Belli titled Peomas Escogidos: Selected Poems, 1958-2006. She authored several journal articles and contributed to a number of scholarly publications.
