What do you say to a friend with cancer? What kind of help should you offer? This book suggests some excellent ways to approach your friend (or neighbor, coworker, or relative--anyone who matters to you), express your concern, and provide practical assistance. The book also presents important information about the changing emotions, needs and energy levels of cancer patients during various times in their cancer experience--at diagnosis, treatment, or post-treatment.
"Helping the Caregiver" and "Helping Your Friend's Family" are two sections which remind the reader that the patient's family and caregiver are suffering, too, and have many needs that are often overlooked. The author provides much insight and ideas for ways to alleviate the stress of cancer on the caregiver and family members. Included, too, is "If Your Friend is Dying," written with great sensitivity.
No one goes through cancer alone. All rely on the kindness of others and this book has some wonderful suggestions for extending that kindness.
