Gerald Randolph Revelle was born in Ohio in 1941. Growing up in Missouri s Bootheel, "Jerry" has written fiction since the third grade, but didn t take publishing seriously before the age of 60. Then, photo-journalism, short stories and articles began to appear…most specializing in his Scandinavian heritage including two novels, one published (My Enemy's Child) and another in final editing. The only son of a second generation Swedish emigrant mother and a southern father, Scandinavian folklore sometimes bubbles over his southern soul and blues harmonica playing. As he says, when suddenly digressing while fiddling a Swedish schottische: …my catfish are swimming with the lutefisk again. As a instrument-rated pilot and businessman Jerry still finds time to folkdance, fiddle, fish and photograph and loves writing about them all. He studied English and drama at the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis in the 60s but has worked exclusively in the field of engineering and technology, both in the US and abroad, since. These years included stints on a couple Apollo projects.
WW-II Scandinavian espionage in neutral Sweden is a unique subject for this romantic adventure. Alex, a Swedish-American joins the RAF to fight in the Battle of Britain. Months of air combat leave him a hero near emotional collapse. British High Command and a princess from the exiled Norwegian Crown recruit him in an under cover plot to pose as a neutral Swedish airline pilot, able to circulate freely throughout Europe. The emotional struggle of a beautiful Nazi between her duty and conscience takes Greta throughout wartime Scandinavia and Europe as she witnesses the horror of the Third Reich s programs toward young women, as the Allies methodically devastate her beloved Germany, from the air. By 1939 Alex is now on critical assignment and finally feeling he can hold his own again. The last thing he needs is to fall in love with Greta, a beautiful, blond Nazi. She s had a child by an SS officer who s executed when his Jewish heritage is discovered. The child was adopted to an unknown family as part of Himmler s Lebensborn Project. Now the authorities want the child eradicated. Learning her daughter is bound for the death camps, Greta abandons her new love, Alex and rushes to Germany, before her SS peers can, to locate her daughter. As Alex s bomber squadron climbs over the English Channel...tonight s target, Cologne, in the cockpit, Alex opens Greta s last letter and learns she s gone to Cologne to search for her child s adopted parents, hoping to steal the child away from them. After the bombing, hearing nothing from Greta for weeks, Alex is distraught. Fearing her injured or dead, Alex steals into Germany to find Greta and her child to bring them out alive. Alex and Greta miss meeting by only days. Unable to find Greta, Alex seeks out the child and is overwhelmed by the warmth of the local civilians, who quickly overcome his reluctance to carry the child back to hiding at his cousin s farm in neutral Sweden. Beginning a journey in an ancient Merceds, two old civilians, the child and Alex deceive their way through Germany and Denmark. They bribe a Norwegian smuggler captain to carry Alex and the child to Sweden. Arriving in a blizzard, the Norwegian has only a small sailboat. Fearing for their lives, they board a small dinghy and row into the darkness, the adventure begins, with the Gestapo close behind.
