We have introduced and described values and how to understand their assessment, two responses kept recurring. The first is some version of, "Wow. This is profound and powerful. Now I really understand what is happening." The second is something like, "This is great, but I'm overwhelmed. This is just too much to try and keep track of." In large part, our reason for writing this book is to address those two responses. People are used to the idea of working with behaviors, but values can seem intangible. Yet values are more powerful in daily life than most people consciously recognize. Even when we do acknowledge the power of values, it is hard to know what exactly to do both about them and with them. Our intent is to provide a handbook for understanding and working with values.
