Nancy Orlando was born in Galion, Ohio in 1934. She attended Ohio State and completed the course with the Institute of Children's Literature while raising four children. Debbi Kern grew up in Glen Allyn, Illinois. After college she moved to Ohio and taught art at Amelia Elementary School near Cincinnati for thirty years
