Historical fiction. The true story of Ann White and her baby daughter abducted by Jicarilla Apache in 1849. A reluctant Kit Carson was recruited to get her back. This is the first time the Jicarilla side of the story has been told. To this day they will not talk to outsiders about what happened.

Doug Hocking is an independent scholar who has completed advanced studies in American history, ethnology and historical archaeology. He is a retired armored cavalry officer who grew up among the Jicarilla Apache and paisanos of the Rio Arriba (Northern New Mexico). Doug writes both fiction and history. His biography of Tom Jeffords (think Jimmy Stewart in Broken Arrow who rode alone into Cochise’s Stronghold to make the peace) will appear in May 2017. Other novels include Mystery of Chaco Canyon (the DaVinci Code Meets the Wild West) and Devil on the Loose (a love story in the tradition of Louis L’Amour set in 1860 Arizona). This is also an anthology of short stories and short non-fiction articles. His work has appeared in True West, Wild West, and the Journal of Arizona History.
