There is a Chicago School of Data emerging— one that places data at the service of people. In 2014 the Smart Chicago Collaborative researched the people and organizations who do this work in our region. We heard from over 240 organizations and hosted a conference to meet and share with each other. This book describes that ecosystem and covers all of the components of research and convening we did as part of the project.

We work on increasing access to the Internet, improving skills for using the Internet, and developing meaningful products from data that measurably contribute to the quality of life of residents in our region and beyond.
