Inhaltsangabe

This book discusses the historical composition and compilation of the Bible as we now have it, i.e., the 66 books of the Bible, with discussion about the non-canonical Apocryphal and Pseudepigraphal Writings as well. Various ancient versions and manuscripts of the Bible, such as the Masoretic Hebrew text, the Samaritan Pentateuch, the Septuagint (Lxx), the Targumim, the Syriac and Latin versions, and Greek manuscripts of the Apostolic Scriptures (New Testament) are described and discussed. The matter of scribal traditions and textual variants which entered into the biblical text as it was copied, are outlined and discussed, showing the methods used to determine the original text which gave rise to such variants. After detailing the process of canonization for both the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) and the Apostolic Scriptures (New Testament), the history of the English Bible is presented. An appendix gives example pages from various biblical manuscripts and texts. A Scripture Index is included as well as a Select Bibliography of sources utilized. Softcover book; 285 pages.
