As a parent of four children, I’ve made more than my share of mistakes. I listened to what people and professionals were telling me on how to raise children. It wasn't until I became a behavioral health counselor working with hospitals, treatment centers, and having a private practice that I observed the family’s dynamics and the behaviors of troubled teenagers. I realized what we as health care providers wanted to teach these teenagers. That’s when it hit me: what are the most important things in life I wanted my children to learn? I took all those behaviors and incorporated them into this handbook.
