Inhaltsangabe

'A comic tour de force,' - Independent.

'One of our funniest writers,' - BBC Comedy.

In 1898 Lester Mayfield was sentenced to 120 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit.
It is now 2025. Lester is about to be released.
He's 145 years old.
And he's angry.

When new prison warden Hank McClusky takes charge of a crumbling out-of-the-way jail in Lemmington Falls, Oklahoma, he is shocked to discover a prisoner still languishing in a cell in an old wing, way beyond his release date. He’s even more shocked to learn Lester Mayfield has been there since 1898, when he was sentenced to 120 years for a minor crime. The ancient convict has completely lost track of time and is unaware of his actual age - until medical tests prove him to be an incredible 145 years old.

It’s time he was released.

At first, Lester’s triumphant re-entry into the community of Lemmington Falls is a cause for celebration, and a media circus. But his re-appearance opens old wounds, and threatens to unearth buried secrets. Lemmington Falls has changed beyond recognition. How will Lester reintegrate into 21st century America? More importantly, can he save the town from the biggest threat it has faced in its two hundred year history? As Lester battles to rescue his town from destruction, he faces battles of his own. What is the secret of his longevity? Why was he incarcerated for so long? And who framed him all that time ago in 1898? As psychiatrists struggle to unlock the secret of Lester Mayfield, the clock is ticking on a town that faces ruin.
