What happens when machines do every job better than you?
Artificial general intelligence and advanced robotics will automate virtually all cognitive and physical tasks within a single generation. The question is not whether this will happen, but what we do when it does.
Three dominant responses get it wrong: optimists who trust history to repeat, pessimists who equate job loss with collapse, and skeptics who deny the technology altogether. All three fixate on jobs rather than goods and services.
Job-Less Utopia argues for a fourth position:Post-Labor Prosperity. If machines produce the same or greater output, society's material wealth is undiminished. The real challenge is distribution, not production. Under adequate redistribution, mass unemployment is not a catastrophe: it is a liberation.

Marcus Hutter has been Professor at the Australian National University for 20+ years (fulltime till 2019 and honorary since then). His research has broadly centered around the information-theoretic foundations of inductive reasoning and reinforcement learning, which has resulted in 200+ publications and numerous awards and patents. As a polymath, his 30+ year R\&D career ranged from medical software development, to physics, mathematics, computer science, philosophy, artificial intelligence, and more recently AGI's economic, political, and social implications. His two previous books on "Universal Artificial Intelligence" (2005/2024) develop the first sound and complete theory of super-intelligent machines (ASI). Since 2006 he also funds and chairs the ongoing Human Knowledge Compression Contest (500\,000 H-prize). See http: //www.hutter1.net/ for further information.
