The newest edition of the most comprehensive handbook on autism and related disorders
Since the original edition was first published more than a quarter-century ago, The Handbook of Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorders has been the most influential reference work in the field. The new, updated Fourth Edition includes the changes in the way the disorder is defined in the DSM5 and ICD-10 that may have profound implications for diagnosis and, by extension, access to services. Along with providing practical clinical advice―including the role of psychopharmacology in treatment―the handbook codifies the ever-expanding current body of research throughout both volumes.
Volume 1
Volume 2
Focuses on three areas of autism studies:
Providing a comprehensive review of all information presently available about autism and pervasive developmental disorders, this invaluable, two-volume reference work brings readers up to date on the abundance of research conducted and published since the previous edition.

Hardback. Zustand: New. Fourth edition of a two-volume reference work on autism spectrum disorder, edited by Fred R. Volkmar, Sally J. Rogers, Rhea Paul, and Kevin A. Pelphrey, and issued by Wiley in 2014. Volume 1 covers diagnosis, development, and brain mechanisms; Volume 2 covers assessment, interventions, and policy. The edition was revised to reflect the redefinition of the disorders under DSM-5 and ICD-10, with attention to the implications for diagnosis and access to services. Volume 2 is arranged in three sections, addressing screening in young children, diagnostic instruments for ASD, clinical evaluation in multidisciplinary settings, assessment of communication, and behavioural assessment, together with interventions for infants and toddlers at risk, comprehensive treatment models for children and youth, and targeted interventions. Chapters within the wider set include treatments of the social neuroscience of ASD, the neuropathology of autism, and medical care in autism and related conditions, with contributions from James C. McPartland, Manuel F. Casanova, and others alongside the editors. The intervention section surveys behavioural treatment across the lifespan, addressing the core features of communication, social skills, stereotypic behaviours, aggression and self-injury, and phases of life including school, work, recreation, personal independence, and social networks.
