Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Virgil, also known as Publius Vergilius Maro, was a Roman poet born near Mantua in 70 BCE. He lived during a period of civil war and political transformation that culminated in the rise of Augustus and the establishment of the Roman Empire. His poetry combined Greek literary traditions with Roman history, rural life, political ideals, and questions of fate, duty, and national identity.Virgil's major works are the Eclogues, the Georgics, and The Aeneid. Left unfinished at his death in 19 BCE, The Aeneid became Rome's national epic and exerted an immense influence on later writers, including Dante, Milton, and countless poets and novelists. His work remains central to the study of classical literature and the development of the Western epic tradition.
