Ax a town meeting held in Middleboro March 5, 1894, it was voted that a committee of three be appointed to take charge of the preparation, and eventually the publishing, of a history of the town of Middleboro, and Joseph E. Beals, Rev. Charles W. Wood, and Hon. Matthew H. Gushing were app)ointed that committee. It was subsequently enlarged by adding the following names :W illiam R. Peirce, Augustus H. Soule, W. Homer Southworth, George W. Stetson, Augustus Pratt, Charles W. Wood, Charles M. Thatcher, Harry L. Sampson, and Chester RW eston. This committee afterwards engaged Thomas Weston to prepare and write the accompanying volume.
