TITLE XXIX MISCELLANEOUS AND PENALTY Sect. 589; Blind Attics Meaning the vacant space situate in a building between the roof and the finished rooms immediately below the same. All buildings hereafter so constructed and containing such space must be provided with suitable openings (other than scuttles) so arranged as to be conveniently accessible from the exterior of said building in case of fire. Sect. 590. Demolishing a Building In demolishing any building, story after story, commencing with the roof, shall be entirely removed or piled upon the ground. The material in the building shall be wet down to properly lay the dust. Sect, 591. Inspection of Elevators, Fire Escapes, and Steam Boilers The Inspector of Buildings shall cause a careful inspection to be made of all elevators, fire escapes and steam boilers for heating purposes or the running of elevators in or under any public building or place of public assembly, in any hotel, building for offices or stores, or apartment building, whenever in the opinion of the said Inspector such inspection is deemed necessary; keep a record of the date and findings of each inspection and see that said elevators, fire escapes and boilers are maintained in a perfectly safe condition and in accordance with the provisions of the City Ordinances. Sect. 592. Receptacles for Refuse Receptacles for inflammable refuse in office buildings, stores, schoolhouses, and other places of public assembly shall be of metal or other non-combustible material and be provided with covers of like material. Sect. 593. Use and Storage of Highly Inflammable Materials The use and storage of gasoline and kerosene and other highly inflammable liquids and materials shall conform to the rules and requirements of the National Board of Fire Underwrite...
