And behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. VII. IN JERUSALEM ONCE MORE. Zbe Source of power. We have been considering some of those appearances of the Risen Jesus in which He manifested Himself to His disciples after His return from the grave. We have dwelt on four of these which took place in Jerusalem,--the first to S. Mary Magdalene, the second to the two disciples on the way to Emmaus, the third to the assembled disciples on the evening of the first Easter Day, and the fourth to S. Thomas with the other disciples a week later; we have gone in thought to Galilee, and gazed on the revelation which our Lord gave there to seven of the Apostles at the Sea of Tiberias, and we have ascended the Holy Mount and beheld Him as He consecrated His Church and gave to it the law which should order its great work in the world. To-day we return in spirit to Jerusalem, there to gaze on another revelation of Jesus Christ. It is not certain when it took place. It must have been towards the end of the great Forty Days; probably our Lord may have met His disciples at Jerusalem only a few days before His Ascension. Nothing is told us of that meeting but the leading feature of the instruction then given.
