For seventeen weeks I have been slowly unwinding to the best of my ability and with the indulgence and patience of those who have been kind enough to read this series through, the many intricacies, pitfalls, peculiarities, chances of gain and special opportunities which an investor must learn before he can begin to tackle the mining business successfully. I have neither exaggerated its dangers, nor have I endeavored to cover its shortcomings, nor diminish its possibilities. The possibilities of making money regularly and constantly through following the fluctuations of the reputable mining shares are good when you are prepared to buy them outright and not on margin. Where four years ago there were only a handful of-stocks listed on the open market that could be safely traded in by investors dabbling in mining stocks, today we find 20 or 30 of such issues that are as safe as any investment can be in mines on the face of this green earth. Each one of these issues, naturally to be profitable to the investor must be bought low and sold high. Better still it should be bought in good, strong reactions and sold out on sharp upturns. Or again, if the investor wants to hold them for long and extensive profits or even for a period when dividends are to be paid, they should be bought when panic or low prices prevail. The average investor has had a hard time wrestling with this last principle of speculation many years and the chances are he has a good many wrestling bouts of this kind ahead of him.
