Excerpt: ... two thousand pounds, for which the old bell was to be received in exchange, pound for pound, and the balance to be paid for in cash at twenty-seven cents per pound. An offer was afterwards made on behalf of Holbrook & Co., that if the parish would consent to have the weight of the bell increased to three thousand pounds, a deduction should be made from the price above mentioned of $ 100. As it appeared to be the desire of a large majority of the Parish that this offer respecting the bell should be accepted, the committee felt it to be their duty to complete the building accordingly; and a bell weighing 2,888 pounds has been placed in the tower of the new church, which is considered by competent judges one of the best in this vicinity, and with which the committee think the Parish will have great cause to be satisfied. "The Parish having authorized this committee, by a vote passed April 20th, 1833, to make provision for warming the meeting-house in such manner as they should deem expedient, they have taken great pains to ascertain the safest, most effective, and most economical method of effecting that important object, and their inquiries have resulted in the conviction that sheet-iron stoves, lined with soapstone, and adapted to the burning of hard (anthracite) coal are the safest and best arrangements for warming large buildings that have been introduced. The committee have accordingly procured two such stoves, which are placed in niches of brick-work, with pipes leading through the length of the building, which they believe will prove sufficient for the purpose for which they were procured.
