Princess Ida Or Castle Adamant is a comic opera written by W.S. Gilbert and composed by Arthur Sullivan. The story follows Princess Ida, who has founded a women's university and refuses to marry Prince Hilarion, who is in love with her. Hilarion and his friends disguise themselves as women to gain entry to the university and convince Ida to marry him. However, complications arise when Ida's father, King Gama, and his sons try to force her to marry a man of their choosing. The opera is filled with witty dialogue, catchy tunes, and humorous situations, and is a satirical commentary on gender roles and education. First performed in 1884, this version of the book was published in 1912 and includes the libretto and sheet music for the songs.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
