Elements of Trigonometry: Plane and Spherical is a comprehensive textbook written by Andrew Wheeler Phillips and first published in 1898. The book is designed to provide a thorough understanding of both plane and spherical trigonometry, which are essential branches of mathematics used in various fields such as surveying, astronomy, physics, and engineering. The book is divided into two parts, with the first part covering plane trigonometry and the second part covering spherical trigonometry. The author begins by introducing the basic concepts and principles of trigonometry, such as angles, trigonometric functions, and identities. He then goes on to explain how these concepts can be applied to solve various problems related to triangles, circles, and other geometric shapes. In the second part of the book, the author explores the more complex topic of spherical trigonometry, which deals with the study of triangles on the surface of a sphere. This section covers topics such as the spherical law of sines and cosines, the solution of spherical triangles, and the use of spherical coordinates.Throughout the book, the author provides numerous examples and exercises to help readers reinforce their understanding of the material. He also includes a number of useful tables and formulas for quick reference.Overall, Elements of Trigonometry: Plane and Spherical is a valuable resource for students, teachers, and professionals in the fields of mathematics, science, and engineering who need a solid understanding of trigonometry. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. In Trigonometry the size of an angle is measured by the amount one side of the angle has revolved from the position of the other side to reach its final position. Thus, if the hand of a clock makes one-fourth of a revolution, the angle through which it turns is one right angle; if it makes one-half a revolution, the angle is two right angles; if one revolution, the angle is four right angles; if one and one-half revolutions, the angle is six right angles, etc. B-t5) FIG. 3T he amount the side OB has rotated from OA to reach its final position may or may not be equal to the inclination of the lines. In Fig. i it is equal to this inclination ;in Fig. 4it is not. Two angles mny have the same sides and yet be different. In Fig.
