No Grapes in Fever and Ague Districts.--Grapes are not only wholesome as an article of food, but the thrifty growth of the vine is an indication of a healthy climate and neighborhood. In the chapter of George Husmann's excellent work " On the Cultivation of the Native Grape," wherein he treats of the soil and locations for vineyards, he states that " he was much struck by the force of a remark made by a medical friend last summer, when, in consequence of the continual rains, the ague was very prevalent." It was this : " Wherever you find the ague an habitual guest with the inhabitants you need not look for healthy grape vines."
