Not illustrated. 1837 Excerpt: ... note: " Liber omnimode rarus in quo quid"quid ad versionis fidelitatem, editionis praestantiam et Italici "idiomatis puritatem facere potest, abunde reperias." See Clement, t. vi. p. 30, where this edition is styled " fort rare," and note 20. The first edition of this translation appeared, I believe, at Venice, in 1512, in 4to. which was succeeded by one, in 8vo. in 1517, and another in 4to. in 1518, 'con aggiunte, ed annotazioni di Joanni Giocondo.' There were three other editions of this translation, the first at Milan, in 1520, in 4to. and the second and third at Venice by Aldus, the tirst of which is dated 1547, in 8vo. of which Haym observes: "Che è lamigliore ditutte le succenate edizioni." V. i. p. 29. Renouard also styles this the best edition. The third was also printed by Aldus, the date of which runs thus: MDVlL. which is evidently an error of the press. Zeno reads the date thus: 1546; but it either is not probable that Aldus should publish two editions in two succeeding years; or that this, which has " corrigente Manutio" in the title-page, is posterior to that of 1547: and I myself agree with Renouard and Paitoni, that his edition was published in 1556, and that the mistake has arisen in consequence of the letter L being misplaced.
