"Now, fellows," cried James Lambert, when they had finished dinner,' "now for a glorious game at ball!" He led the way to quite a large field a short distance back of the village, where they found a considerable number of boys already collected. It was a first-rate place for their game, the ground being level and hard, and had evidently been used a good deal. "Hurrah! Come on! Come on!" they all shouted together, as soon as they spied our three companions. "Here, let Jim Lambert and Tom Robinson choose up for sides and first choice!" cried one. GETTING READY. 49 "'No, it's my turn, Tom Eobinson chose up last time!" cried another. "Oh, never mind, Gus; what difference does it make?" said a third. "Well, go ahead," said Gus. The bat was brought, and all gathered around. Jim tossed up the bat, and Tom caught it.
