After this sentence of condemnation, Meade carried up an appeal therefrom, not to the supreme tribunal, as he had formerly asserted his right of doing, but to the intermediate one of Alzadas, which, after having pointed out the supreme tribunal, as the proper one for his appeal to be made to, upon a better acquaintance with the appellant, agreed to gratify him, in gaining time. After six months, however, of toil and vexation, on the part of the assignees, the record was carried up from Alzadas, through its incompentency to entertain jurisdiction in the case, to the supreme tribunal, which, on the 10th of March, 1815, affirmed, in full, the definitive sentence of the Consulado. A new trial was hereupon asked for by Meade: but as he had nothing new, either of law or fact, to urge in his behalf, his application was rejected. He then prayed the king ta command the tribunal to give him the new trial, which they had just denied to him on fair and legal grounds. H. M. sent down the petition to the tribunal for such ends as might be proper. A repetition of their former denial was the result. Still, however, Meade repeated his solicitation for a royal order, for the purpose indicated, as far as the sixth time, when the king, as if to get rid of his importunities--being then, as he is now, reinstated in " the plentiiude of his royal rights"--issued his mandate for the new trial in question; and also, on the following day, commanded the tribunal to give him a report of the case, in the form of a consulta.
