C H A P. XII. Of the Cloathing of a Regiment in general, with some Observations on the several Appointments of it. ART. I. AS the state in which the Cloathing is usually sent to a Regiment, requires many alterations, to make it persect, and as nothing contributes more to the good appearance of Soldiers, than having the several appointments which compose their Dress, fitted with the greatest exactness, it is necessary that no pains be spared, to accomplish so advantageous a design; therefore, if the Quarter-master or some other Officer, upon an examination of every article, finds them agreeable to the intentions of the Colonel, and the patterns sealed by the board of General-officers, at their annual review of cloathing (of which he should make remarks in a return to the Commander of the Regiment) all the taylors of the several Companies ought to be assembled, under the direction of the soberest, and most ingenious of the whole, in some convenient place, in order to make a general alteration. H. From the natural disposition of these tayiors to irregularity and drunkenness, it will be necessary to lay them under some restraint, for which purpose, a Centinel must be posted on the room they work in, to prevent disorders, and to compel them to remain the stated hours at work; the Quartermaster and his Serjeant are likewise frequently to visit I 2 them, them, in order to punish those, who do not strictly conform...
